When we are little we do all kinds of foolish things, sometimes unwillingly and sometimes premeditated. And parents' next reaction is to punish us and make sure that we wonst repeat that nonsense again. The ways parents try to punish us can be more or less severe, depending on the gravity of the foolish thing that we have committed: having lied to them, coming back late at home, swearing, skipping classes for one day or more, fighting with other children, stealing something or being impolite, are just some of the foolish things children are punished for.
Therefore, at an early age parents use to punish their children as it follows: firstly, they don't allow children to watch TV for a couple of days; secondly, parent's don't permit their children to go out and play
with their friends; thirdly, children are given different tasks to accomplish: they have to write something several times or they have to stay in the corner of the room, hands backwards for a couple of minutes, until parents decide to 'free' them.
Moreover, when in their adolescence, children can receive other types of punishment. In the majority of cases, parents punish children by not giving them pocket money, which is for them the best form of punishment. Then, they forbid children to go out in the weekends or return home after a certain hour. Likewise, parents verify children's homework, even if they haven't done it before. Not to forget the fact that parents also stop talking to their children or refuse to give them food, which means that children have to prepare meals alone as they have no other alternative.
Sometimes, these forms of punishment have positive results and children won’t repeat the bad things they have done. Anyway, if a child is used to do nonsense things because he or she has a somehow special behaviour and is more independent compared to other children, then all his or her parents' punishments will be of no importance to him or her. He or she will carry out the punishment and after a short period of time will commit another one.
