Too often we give children answers to remember rather than problems to solve

Q:   Ask a Question about Too often we give children answers to remember rather than problems to solve
Too often we give children answers to remember rather than problems to solve by Cristina Nuta -

There are many children who don't have a good relationship with their families. They complain about the fact that their parents do not know how to communicate with them and that the only thing they know to do is how to impose their point of view each time.

But is this a correct attitude towards our children? Have parents the right to just give their children answers to remember or should they also help their offspring solve their problems? In fact, parents should know how to combine both situations. At an early age children should be given some answers to remember because they can't be offered explanations they are not able to understand. For example, they should know that it is not good to push the fingers into the stuff because you can die or that it is prohibit ed to leave the tap opened in the bathroom.

But after a certain age, parents should know how to communicate with their children and listen to their concerns. They should not say that they feel very tired because they have worked all day long or that they just don't have time for that, and leave the conversation for the next day. And when they listen to their children's problems, they should not impose their points of view because it is better to leave children choose for themselves certain things in life. The duty a parent has is to give them advice and possible solutions to problems and to open their child's eyes concerning friends around him or reality in general.

To conclude, for a better communication between parents and their children, it is necessary for parents to learn how to listen to their children's concerns. They should try to give up prejudices and fixed ideas and understand their children's points of view, too because they may be right even if parents sometimes do not accept the fact that they themselves can be wrong in certain situations. This way, children will be able to tell their parents what problems they have or that they have done something wrong, and they will not choose to go to talk to a friend or somebody else.
