What happened in the great San Francisco earthquake?

Q:   Ask a Question about What happened in the great San Francisco earthquake?
What happened in the great San Francisco earthquake? The last time the San Andreas Fault slipped, it caused the worst disaster in San Francisco's history. The earthquake happened in April 1906. It devastated the city by damaging buildings and causing uncontrollable fires, which raged for several days. At least 3,000 people were killed and 250,000 people lost their homes.

People fear that this disaster may be repeated, because reconstruction of the city has taken place across the San Andreas Fault. However, scientists constantly monitor the area for signs of earthquake activity.

The shapes of the continents still show how they were once joined. South America can be fitted almost exactly into the coast of Africa.
