Even if I have finished the Faculty of Letters, the English-Spanish section, I don't want to be a language teacher for the simple reason that I don't want to work surrounded by children who can make stir up my nerves. However, a student who finishes his studies and wants to become a language teacher needs a good grounding in order to be a good and an appreciated teacher.
First of all, it is not necessary to have just good knowledge of the vocabulary or language of a foreign language. At the same time, a language teacher should have a proper accent of that specific language and this implies living for some time in countries where that specific foreign language is spoken. For example, a good English teacher should travel frequently to England and also, America or th
e Northern countries where English is spoken. This will help him to improve his pronunciation and also his skills in communication.
Secondly, it is important for a good language teacher to express himself in the foreign language he teaches, and very few in his native language. This will help students to hear how the words are pronounced and how phrases are made. Then, a good teacher should impose his students to express themselves in the foreign language they are studying even if they make mistakes. It is a good exercise for students to know that when expressing in a foreign language, the most important of all is to avoid thinking in your native language and then translate into the foreign language you learn. Therefore, students should learn to express themselves directly in that specific foreign language.
Moreover, students should be given many compositions in which their knowledge in vocabulary and grammar are tested. Reading and listening is also important for a better pronunciation and teachers should bring during their classes different methods to entertain students and make them communicate in a specific foreign language.
Finally, a good language teacher should recommend his students to read books and watch to movies. Therefore, if you want to have a rich vocabulary in English, for example, it is better to read books in English and not in Romanian and, also, you should try to watch to movies in English, hear the accent and try to improve the one you have.
